Enrolling at Walford

The process of enrolling your daughter in the right school can be an anxious decision and it is important that you are fully informed.

Applications to enrol your daughter at Walford can be submitted at any time. We encourage early applications to increase the likelihood of securing a place for your daughter in your preferred entry year.

The acceptance of this application will place your daughter on a waiting list for entry. Please note that this does not secure an enrolled place for your daughter.

Two years before the time of entry, and subject to availability, places are offered to students on our waiting list. These places can be secured at the time of offer by payment of an Enrolment Fee.

FAQ

Q: How early should I apply?

A: Enrolments are offered two years prior to entry and it is advisable to list your daughter as early as possible. Offers are made in order of the date of application and dependent upon vacancies at the relevant year level. Applications can be made at short notice and immediate enrolment is possible if a vacancy exists.

Q: Can I change my application?

A: Yes. Applications can be brought forward or deferred to a later year level by contacting the school admissions staff. If a place is offered and not accepted, a deferral does not guarantee a place in the new year of entry – a new offer will need to be made.

Q: What is the school's entrance policy?

A: Walford is a non-selective school. Your daughter will not be required to sit an entrance examination or attend an interview. We recommend a visit to the school and a meeting with Heads of School prior to commencement. All Walford students undergo diagnostic testing at the beginning of each year. The results of these tests assist staff to tailor programs to meet the needs of each student.

Q: How will my daughter settle into Walford and make friends?

A: Even if your daughter doesn’t know anyone at Walford when she starts here, we are sure she will know many girls by the end of her first visit!

We conduct a special orientation program which includes a number of ‘friend raising’ activities and group exercises. The girls are allocated a buddy through the Walford ‘Big Sister’ program to help them gain confidence in their new surroundings. This program commences before orientation and the girls will be contacted by their special sister forming a unique bond which lasts throughout their time at school together.

Teachers at Walford are very sensitive to girls’ needs in forming new relationships and the happiness and wellbeing of students is of prime concern to the school.

Q: What sets Walford apart?

A: Walford is an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School and offers all three IB programs - Primary Years, Middle Years and Diploma. It is one of very few all girls’ schools in Australia to offer IB from Early Learning to Diploma level. The IB provides a framework of academic challenge that encourages students to embrace and understand the connections between traditional subjects and the real world, and become critical and reflective thinkers. It is designed to foster development of the whole child, not just in the classroom and Walford IB graduates are welcomed by the world’s leading universities.

Girls at Walford enjoy a diverse curriculum and range of co-curricular activities, enabling them to focus on, and build skills in these areas. As a result, Walford graduates achieve an extremely high academic standard and have confidence to pursue university pathways of their choice. The School is consistently ranked as one of the top non-selective schools in Australia.

Many people comment on the distinct “Walford feel” which is evident, even on their first visit. The friendliness, warmth and strong community contribute to a unique learning environment where excellence is celebrated.
