Parents’ Associations

With a variety of groups and opportunities for parent participation, Walford families are encouraged to become involved in our School community.

Parent Teacher Association

The Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is an integral part of the School community. Each year, the PTA arranges a number of social and fundraising events, including the Welcome to New Parents Evening, the Father’s Day Breakfast, and the PTA Picnic BBQ.

The PTA has been a part of Walford’s history since the first parent committee was formed in 1944 with the encouragement of the Headmistress of that time, Miss Mabel Jewell Baker.

Parents from the Junior, Middle and Senior Schools are encouraged to join the PTA Committee and the Junior School Parent’s Club. It is a great way to get to know and enjoy your daughter’s School.

The Committee of parents and teachers meet once a term to plan activities and to exchange ideas which can further the well being of the whole School community.

2016 Executive Committee:

  • Co-Presidents: Jacky Jones, Bec Francis
  • Co-Vice Presidents: Vanessa Greenslade, Simran Bath
  • Treasurer: Stuart Nancarrow
  • Secretary: Dorothy Nycz

Junior School Parent’s Club (JSPC)

The Junior School Parents’ Club is a sub-group of the PTA. It comprises class representatives and other interested parents. In addition to fostering relationships between parents and the school, the group plans and supports Junior School events and other occasions where parents are encouraged to participate. These include organising fundraising activities and the annual Junior School Parents’ Christmas Lunch, which is a long-standing Walford event.

The Committee meet once each term. The elected President and Executive work closely with the Head of the Junior School.

Year Level/Class Representatives

Year Level Representatives comprise of parents from ELC through to Senior School year levels. There are generally up to four Year Level Representatives from each year level (depending on the year level size). The representatives are invited to attend PTA meetings to provide feedback and support and liaise between parents and the committee.

The Year Level Representatives play an important role in welcoming new families to the school, building a sense of community through the organisation of year level events, and supporting attendance at School events.

Requests for volunteers to be a Year Level Representative are made at the beginning of the year, but this should not deter anyone wishing to join the group at any stage throughout the year.

If you would like to be a Year Level Representative, please contact Ms Prue Bowley, Director of Marketing and Communications on 08 8373 4062 or pbowley@walford.asn.au.

Rowing Parent Committee

Walford has the most successful school-girl rowing program in South Australia. We appreciate the strong support and enormous enthusiasm generated through the Rowing Parent Committee.

The Rowing Parent Committee is an active and dedicated group of parents who support regattas and organise activities to raise funds for rowing equipment. This group also provides much appreciated support for rowers, as well as wonderful camaraderie for parents and families of rowers.

Pedal Prix Parent Committee

Walford has a long history of participation in Pedal Prix with more than 80 girls from Year 6-10 participating each year.

Pedal Prix is an exciting activity that provides students with an opportunity to develop their skills in innovation and teamwork whilst improving their fitness.

We invite parents and community members to demonstrate support for the Walford Racing Team by helping to organise social activities or by providing support through vehicle sponsorship.

Blue and Gold Fundraising Committee

This Committee assists Walford’s Council by developing strategies for major capital fundraising initiatives, in accordance with the School’s strategic plan.

Events such as the Walford Ball, and the Bubbles and Baubles evening are planned and run by the Committee. These events are designed to foster community at the school, while raising funds that directly impact educational outcomes for students.
