Scholarships 2011
Walford offers a broad range of scholarships each year. Some are available only to girls entering the school in the initial award year (entrance scholarships), while others are open to both entering and continuing students. Scholarships Offered for Year 6
NINA MORRISON SCHOLARSHIPS: Two scholarships will be awarded annually by examination. These awards are open to any student studying at Year 5 level in the year of the examination. They provide for remission of 25% tuition fees and each is tenable for four years.

Scholarships Offered for Year 7
ENTRANCE SCHOLARSHIP: One entrance scholarship will be awarded annually by examination. This award is open to students studying at Year 6 level in the year of the examination. It provides for remission of 50% tuition fees and is tenable for six years.

Examination date: Saturday 13 February 2010

Scholarships Offered for Year 8
ELLEN BENHAM SCHOLARSHIPS: Two scholarships will be awarded annually by examination. These awards are open to any student studying at Year 7 level at the time of the examination. They provide for remission of 25% tuition fees and are tenable for five years.

LYDIA ADAMSON SCHOLARSHIPS: Two entrance scholarships are awarded annually by examination. These awards are open to students entering Walford and studying at Year 7 level at the time of the examination. They provide for remission of 25% tuition fees and each is tenable for five years.

DIOCESAN SCHOLARSHIP: Two entrance scholarships are awarded annually on the recommendation of the Principal and are open to girls entering Walford from an Anglican primary school. They provide for remission of 25% tuition fees and are tenable for up to five years. The awards are determined by application, interview and/or examination. Criteria for selection include academic achievement, personal qualities and involvement in co-curricular activities.

Scholarships Offered for Year 9
FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP: One entrance scholarship providing for remission of 25% tuition fees for 4 years is awarded to a student entering the school at Year 9 level. The award is determined by application, interview and/or examination. Criteria for selection include academic achievement, personal qualities and involvement in co-curricular activities. The Walford Foundation determines how frequently this scholarship is awarded.

Scholarships Offered for Year 10
MABEL JEWELL BAKER SCHOLARSHIPS: Two scholarships are awarded annually by examination. These awards are open to any student studying at Year 9 level at the time of the examination. They provide for remission of 25% tuition fees for three years.

BOARDING HOUSE ENTRANCE SCHOLARSHIP: One Boarding House entrance scholarship will be awarded annually by examination. The award is open to a boarding student entering Walford and studying at Year 9 level at the time of the examination. It provides for remission of 50% tuition fees for three years.

Music Scholarships
ROSALIE ANNE TAYLOR MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP: This scholarship is awarded annually to a new or continuing student who demonstrates an outstanding aptitude in music. It is awarded at the discretion of the Principal by recommendation from Music Coordinator and provides for remission of 50% tuition fees, for up to five years. The scholarship may be shared.

MUSIC ENTRANCE SCHOLARSHIP: One entrance scholarship is awarded annually to a student entering Walford who demonstrates an outstanding aptitude in music. It is awarded at the discretion of the Principal by recommendation from Music Coordinator and provides for remission of 50% tuition fees, for up to five years. The scholarship may be shared.

TIM MARTIN CHORAL SCHOLARSHIP: One scholarship is awarded annually to a Walford student who is a member of the St Peter’s Cathedral Choir. The award is open to students in Years 5-12. It is awarded at the discretion of the Music Coordinator at Walford and the Director of Music of St Peter’s Cathedral and provides for remission of 25% tuition fees, for one year payable at the end of the year.
 
Other Scholarships
CENTENARY SCHOLARSHIPS: These entrance scholarships provide for remission of up to one-third tuition fees for up to three years. The length of tenure depends on the year level of entry. They are offered by application, interview and/or examination and awarded for entry at Years 5 to 11. Criteria for selection include academic achievement, personal qualities and involvement in co-curricular activities. Financial circumstances may be taken into consideration. The number of scholarships is determined by the Council of Governors.

BOARDING HOUSE SCHOLARSHIPS:
These entrance scholarships are available for students entering the Boarding House. They are awarded at the discretion of the Principal and may provide for such remission of tuition fees as she may fix (from 15-50%), subject to a total quota which is determined by the Council of Governors. One of these scholarships is held open for an isolated student.

Scholarships Offered for Year 12
OLD SCHOLARS’ HONOUR AWARD: This scholarship is awarded annually to a girl already enrolled in the School. It is determined by a Selection Committee consisting of the Principal and permanent members of the Senior School teaching staff. The award is made to a girl in the Senior School who is outstanding in character and all-round ability. To be eligible, the recipient must be the daughter, or granddaughter of an Old Scholar, provided that the Old Scholar is a financial member of the Old Scholars’ Association on 30 June of the year of the award or, if the Old Scholar is deceased, that she was a financial member of the Association at the date of her death. Further, no girl shall be eligible for selection if she already holds a scholarship for remission of fees or if she has previously won this scholarship. The award provides for remission of full tuition fees for one year. This scholarship may be shared.
Bursaries
CONFIDENTIAL PRINCIPAL'S BURSARIES: These are awarded at the discretion of the Principal and provide remission of a proportion of the tuition fees or boarding fees. They are tenable for periods of time up to 1 year and then reviewed. The total amount awarded in each year is subject to a quota which is determined by the Council of Governors. Parents are invited to speak with the Principal about a bursary to help in cases of special need. All information is strictly confidential.
