Considerable research has gone into the design of our new boarding house to ensure that it provides a happy, healthy and safe environment for our students.
Right: The outside of the new boarding house.
The girls in the senior years will have the opportunity to have their own bedrooms, laptops with access to all the school programs at night, and individual bathrooms.
Small groups will be able to share a lovely lounge area in each house with kitchen facilities, and be able to gather in larger groups in the entertainment area on the ground floor. Being on the school campus will allow boarding students to use the music and art rooms after hours and they will have easier access to the pool and courts.
All of the students will eat together in the new cafeteria or enjoy the specially designed alfresco areas in summer.
Walford’s history of providing boarding, has created an understanding of all that is required to make boarding a successful experience for all of our students.
The boarding house has a positive and productive atmosphere. Younger girls have supervised homework times whilst the older students work more independently. Boarding staff members communicate regularly with teaching staff to ensure that any academic concerns are quickly resolved and keep in close contact with parents. Many of our staff members are ex parents not only of Walford but also of its boarding house and others have been boarders themselves.
All of our students are very busy and boarding helps them to socialise and to organise the use of their time. After school, many play a range of sports but others take dancing lessons, gym classes, learn to drive, run, or gain qualifications in Hospitality. Several girls coach or umpire school teams. We also offer activities on the weekends. The girls mix with others in Adelaide’s boarding schools and enjoy socials, paint balling, ten -pin bowling or adventure activities.
Over the years, many of our boarders have excelled academically and most keep in contact whilst they further their studies. They make friends for life.
Our handbook provides more information about boarding life but we would be delighted to meet you personally if you are looking for the right school for your daughter. Come and see the house and meet the boarders. |
