Old Scholar Achievements
Congratulations are extended to the following Old Scholars for their outstanding achievements.
New Colombo Plan Scholarship
Congratulations to Emily Chen ('12) who was awarded the New Colombo Plan Scholarship by the Australian Government. This prestigious full scholarship supports the best 40 undergraduate students across Australia to study in Asia-Pacific regions.
Emily was selected as one of the top 5 undergraduate students from The University of Queensland to compete against students from 30 other universities in Australia. We wish Emily the best as she will be starting her exchange program at The University of Hong Kong in September this year.
PhD Research Excellence - Health and Medical Sciences
Congratulations to Dr Kathleen Pishas ('05), Postdoctoral Research Fellow, who won the 2014 SA Science Excellence Awards for her PhD Research in Health and Medical Sciences.
Kathleen's research aims to discover therapeutic approaches for the targeted treatment of sarcomas – a rare cancer of the solid bone and soft tissue, which disproportionately affects the young. Her work will use novel methods to directly assess the biological response of fresh tumour material to anti-cancer agents. Potentially, the results may identify biomarkers that predict patient response to novel therapeutic agents.
Congratulations to softballer Belinda White ('05) and to track cyclist Rikki Belder ('10) who have been included in The Advertiser's recent list of "South Australia's Fastest-Rising Stars Under 30".
Belinda first picked up a softball glove aged 11 and made her first Australian squad at 19. She has represented the country in tournaments including the 2012 World Championships in Yukon, Canada, where the team claimed gold. At last year’s Canada Cup she won the best catcher award. She is currently in Haarlem in the Netherlands for the Softball World Cup.
Belinda was also recently profiled in The Advertiser's SA Weekend magazine.
Rikki is definitely a star to watch, at 20 years of age, she has already been crowned track cyclist national champion three times.
