On Sunday 19 March the Walford sailing team (Katherine Brand, Sophie Davidson, Eva Kuiper, Kate Wilson, Georgia McDonald, Ella Anderson, Milly Murray and Ella Gartrell ) along with 15 other Adelaide school teams competed in the first day of the School's Metro Championship regattas which was held at the Port River Sailing Club.
The start of racing was delayed as the weather was very calm in the morning, but the wind picked up in the afternoon allowing all teams to complete four races. The Walford team won two of their races, beating both the Prince Alfred College teams, and almost won against the St Peter’s College 3rd team. It was also very exciting for the regatta to be featured on the Channel 7 weather that night, with Walford getting a mention.
The team is looking forward to the second day of the Metro Championship on Sunday 2 April. Hopefully the weather will allow for more races so that we can compete against some of the other schools before the State Championships, which will be held at the Port River Sailing Club during the last week of the coming school holidays.
We are pleased to welcome all the new girls who have joined the sailing team this year. They have improved over the term and the older sailors have successfully moved up to take on more responsibility. We would love to see anyone who is interested come and watch us sail this Sunday.
